Company Holds 5K, Raises Additional $20,000, Bringing Total Raised to $46,000; Donations to Provide Supplies and On-Site Aid to Communities in Haiti
OREM, UT-(November 9, 2010) - Pinnacle Security, a leader in the residential and commercial security market, today announced it will become the first corporate sponsor for “Sustain Haiti,” a non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to helping rebuild communities in Haiti. The sponsorship falls under the recently announced “Pinnacle: Securing Hope” philanthropic initiative, created to provide employees opportunities to serve.
One of the first organizations chosen under the initiative, “Sustain Haiti” has a strong commitment to ongoing development with a focus on education as well as providing supplies to help meet immediate basic needs.
“‘Pinnacle: Securing Hope’ was created with a strong commitment to community service,” said Kelly Walker, CEO, Pinnacle Security. “Sustain Haiti is focused on creating and rebuilding the elements of a community that will allow the region to function long term. It is a perfect match for our objectives and will provide opportunities for individuals to volunteer in Haiti as well as well as contribute funds and supplies. We are pleased to be part of those efforts.”
Pinnacle Security has instituted a variety of fund raising vehicles for the project including a 5K race that was planned in conjunction with a Utah Valley University student club. The event took place Saturday, November 6 and raised more than $20,000, bringing the total funds raised for Sustain Haiti to $46,000. More than 1000 hours were donated by 57 Pinnacle employees to support the race along with more than 300 participants running the 5K.
In January, a group of Pinnacle employees will travel to Haiti on their own funds to determine, along with directors from “Sustain Haiti,” the best use of funds and then work to implement the project.
“Pinnacle Security is a great sponsor for our program. The funds will help provide supplies, donations as well as volunteers and we are pleased for the opportunity to have them as our first corporate sponsor,” said Nadmid Namgur, Executive Director of Sustain Haiti. “There is a long road ahead; recovery in Haiti will take several years. With Pinnacle’s support and that of others, we can offer hope to the people of Haiti and ultimately offer a better future.”
“Sustain Haiti” has six established objectives:
- Provide hands-on education in square foot gardening
- Provide sanitation/hygiene education
- Provide clean water technology
- Provide business training and work with Haitian micro-finance institutions to identify micro-enterprise candidates
- Teach English
- Provide needed supplies to orphanages
“It is an honor for Pinnacle to sponsor ‘Sustain Haiti,’” said Scott Carter, Senior Director of Human Resources, Pinnacle Security. “Our employees and representatives play a direct role in how their contributions are used and will be rewarded by seeing the impact they are making firsthand.”
